I just finished my Blue Wings column on the Eurovision song contest. I will put it on the net as of 1 May.
I found some nice parallels with EU integration and the Eurovision. Basically: where the Eurovision goes, the EU will follow.
The Eurovision started with seven countries, now there are around 40 competitors. The first four winners of the new Millennium have been Turkey, Latvia, Estonia and the Ukraine. Estonia and Latvia joined the EU in 2004. Turkey started accession negotiations in 2005 and the Ukraine is knocking on the door…
Today’s International Herald Tribune ran a nice piece on Finland’s Eurovision contender this year. The band is called Lordi. Check out the picture below. Do I need to say more? I think we might just win it this year…
The picture is from Lordi’s homepage.
